• Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) is the leading Strategic Rail Freight Terminal Interchange (SRFI) in the country.

    This Is Dirft

Scheme Information

Its growth and the consistently high demand for services at DIRFT demonstrate how very important rail is to supply chains and to the logistics industry. Moving goods around quickly and efficiently is central to the modern economy. Rail is therefore a vital component in a more sustainable future at which DIRFT plays a vital role.

The success of DIRFT has led to it nearing capacity and businesses that it can accommodate.

The provision of a new state-of-the-art intermodal area will enable additional logistics operators and local businesses to take advantage of the benefits of a rail served logistics park. DIRFT already benefits from the attributes of its location, on the axis of the M1, M6, A14 and A5, and the existing connection to the ‘Northampton Loop’ branch of the West Coast Main Line railway. Its close proximity to key markets and the ability to provide thousands of jobs close to areas of population growth makes DIRFT an appealing prospect for both businesses and employees.

Prologis aspirations for the expansion, building on these site attributes and applying market leading development principles, will position DIRFT as the exemplar Multi Modal Logistics Park, of which the local area, wider region and the country can be proud.

Prologis RFI Dirft will include:

  • A rail link from the existing terminal to a replacement rail terminal
  • Up to 7.86 million sq ft (731,000 sq m) of logistics / distribution floorspace
  • Minor local highway works
  • A lorry park for DIRFT users
  • Management and Rail Control building
  • Centre for Logistics Skills and Innovation
  • Employment opportunities – estimated up to 9,000 people will be employed in the new phase
  • 173 acre (70 hectare) landscape and ecology zone known as Lilbourne Meadows
